My ISU book is "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe. "Things Fall Apart" follows a highly respected man as he tries to hold onto the fragile seams keeping his village together. Fighting the oncoming Christians on one side, the betrayal of his own village on the other, and his own desire to be more of a success that his father. Okonkwo has a very difficult time upholding everything that he holds dear. Trying to desperately hold onto grains of sand, things fall apart for Okonkwo.
Overall, I like the book, it is a good read, thick, but a good read. My biggest problem with the book is it's incorporation with the native language, which although gives the book an authentic feeling proves to be a nuisance for the reader who also not fluent. Other than the sheer pace at which I read, I have no other problems with the book. It connects to "The Book of Negroes" in regards to the theme of African Life being disrupted by white men, religion, betrayal, and identity.
Overall, I look forward to the essay I write, because the book is very similar to "The Book of Negroes". It will be a pleasure to finish the book.
